Couple have the Bib Idea

Switching ManufacturingAs with any company producing a product, we strive to make sure we are using the best quality materials and also make sure that the workmanship on our bib is of the highest quality. So for our company to achieve this we have always kept an open mind. Until now we have been making our bib tops in India and the plastic section is made by Dudley Associates in Lutterworth. We have tried many different ways of printing onto the material that we currently use, and we have encountered some problems along the way. So we took the decision to speak to a manufacturer in China who approached the business and assured us that they could develop a better quality of product and supply us with better material. We put China to the test and it seemed they were right. When we received our first set of samples back we were more than impressed, so much so, we put our manufacturer in India to the test with the new material. They didn’t come close. As with any business it is important to start off on the right foot and to also think about the future, and by swapping from India to China we feel we have done this. |
It's often the simple ideas that lead to big things in the world of business and Stephen and Amanda Wilkes brainwave could be a case in point. When the Solihull couple’s son, Anthony, refused to wear an uncomfortable plastic bib, they went searching for a comfortable alternative. But after an unsuccessful search around the shops, a light bulb lit up starting a 12-year-journey to break into the baby market. Now, after a long wait, the Waldeve Grove residents have developed a new product which looks set to reap them rewards. The Comfy Catch bib has the comfort of a towelling bib and the catching function of the plastic trough bib. The product has a detachable upper part which comes in several different designs and colours. The multi-functional bib beat off hundreds of entries to finish runner-up in the Baby Products Association’s Innovative and unique design award last month. "It’s been very well received, and we have received interest from some major retailers and also independent retailers who want to stock our bib,” said Stephen, who gave up a career in financial services to concentrate on The Comfy Catch Bib two years ago. “The beauty about this product from a sales point of view is that it’s something we can take globally. As they say ‘great oaks from little acorns grow’,” said Steven. www.icsolihull.co.uk Article written by Andy Walker, from The Solihull News & Times |
